Glazed Doughnut Skin Guide

It all started in March 2021, when Hailey Bieber, model and fashion influencer, talked about her skincare routine and the secret to a glowing skin, on her youtube channel.

She spoke on her favorite skincare brands, #GRWM (get ready with me) tips, and her go-to make-up essentials.

On top of that, she presented a look (which she named the ‘glazed doughnut look’) and the steps she follows every night. She says, “If I’m not getting into bed looking like a glazed donut, then I’m not doing the right thing.” She referred to this look as a dewy, almost glazed complexion. Little did she know that it would trend all over the internet.

The glazed fever is on, and has now transcended into even nail art, with the birth of glazed doughnut nails! It is characterized by a pale, white pearl polish, embellished with shimmering chrome that has become one of Bieber's go-to-looks.

What Is Glazed Skin?

Glazed doughnut skin is a shiny, dewy and hydrated skin. This is what we oily skin people naturally have — and it is apparently a trend now? Jokes apart, glazed doughnut skin aims at giving your skin adequate love by quenching its thirst.

If you want to have glazed doughnut skin and ditch your dull, dry skin,  you have to keep your skin moisturized and glowing. The essential idea is to protect our natural barrier with non-greasy moisturizers.

Is It The Same As Glass Skin?

The answer is no. Although at first glance both these skincare trends might sound similar, there is a subtle difference between the two. They both focus on hydration to achieve that dewy look, but the Korean ‘glass skin’ involves a lot of layering with a host of hydrating skincare products and consistency to achieve your goal. On the other hand, glazed doughnut skin aims at a minimalistic approach towards skincare, with less products and more strategic techniques to achieve the moon-like glow, while protecting your natural barrier.

Additionally, glazed skincare might involve using petroleum jelly to seal the moisture unlike K beauty recipes.

How Do We Achieve The Glazed Look?

To get your hands on this popular look, aka glowing shimmering skin, all you have to do is to religiously follow a skincare routine and wait patiently for the results!

If you are aiming at glazed doughnut skin, then your regimen for prepping your skin should look something like this:

Step 1

The first step starts with cleansing your skin. This is done to remove any makeup products, dust and oil accumulation from sweat, or excess sebum production. For cleansing, make sure to use a non-fragrant, oil free, cleansing lotion, as we will be covering the skin with hydrating products in the following steps.

Step 2

Toners should be used to wipe your skin, especially your under-eye portions. Preferably use an alcohol-free toner to avoid any skin irritation. Choose a toner which has slippery gel-like consistency, rather than the usual water-based serum, as this will be more effective in seeping deeply through the cell membrane.

Step 3

Next, apply a hydrating serum for your skin. It is even better if your serum contains anti-aging ingredients, such as Vitamin C. If you have sensitive skin, use a milder version.

Step 4

The second-last step is to massage your skin with the golden grail, aka moisturizer, and follow it up with sunscreen if it's daytime. Your moisturizer should contain emollients, which are lipid-based ingredients that fortify and imitate your skin's natural oils.

Emollients fill the gaps in your skin barrier. This means goodbye dull and dry skin, and hello smooth, soft, glowing skin. Common emollients you can find are shea butter, squalene, and jojoba oil.

Step 5

Finally, after all these steps, finish your look with a hydrating mist. Your skin deserves to glow and you can achieve it by spraying some mist to lock in your moisture.

When lightly misted over your skin, it brings the shiny, dewy glazed look. See, it is that simple!

Can Oily Skin Achieve A Glazed Doughnut?

Don’t worry. Even if you have oily skin, you can still follow this trend. Just use the right products. If you have oily skin, avoid heavy, creamy products, as they can clog the pores. Instead, switch to lighter lotions.

Add hyaluronic acid serum to your routine and see the magic happen. Otherwise, it is the same skincare routine that you need to follow. Try non-comedogenic and fragrance-free products to avoid any irritation and triggers on the skin.
