Do you need to change skincare routine with seasons

We don't wear a sweatshirt in scorching heat. Who would do that, right? But did you know, your skin (just like you) doesn't like wearing the same skincare products through all the seasons? Well, this might be the reason why your skincare routine stops showing results during certain times of the year. Remember your skin becoming greasier when it gets warmer and drier when it gets colder? (at least for some of us!). So just like shuffling between winter and summer wardrobes, your skincare routine needs some change too.

Do I really need to change my skincare routine though?

Your skin changes with changing seasons. During cold weather, the cool air outside sucks out all your skin’s moisture, leaving it dry. On hot humid days however, the skin becomes more vulnerable and makes more sebum than usual. From dry to greasy, the skin behaves differently with changing seasons. To rescue your skin, you need a different skincare routine for different seasons.

Skincare routine for the the sweater weather

With the Christmas season not just comes Santa, but also the trouble of dry skin, for many of us. The dry air and chilly wind can drain moisture from your skin, making it dry and rough. But don't let your skin take off the joy of carols and cakes and gifts. Instead, change your skin routine with new skincare products  to suit periodic needs.

Moisturise, moisturise and moisturise. This is the age-old secret mantra for cold seasons. If there is one thing you shouldn't compromise during those chilly seasons that is using moisturisers. It not only prevents your skin from getting dry but also keeps your skin soft and plump.

From cleansers to moisturisers, try to pick skincare products that can hydrate your skin all day. And here’s a tip. Cream-based moisturisers that make your skin greasy in summer, are best for these chilly seasons!

There is something else we often do. We overlook the cosy weather and give up on sunscreen. While the truth is, sunscreen is the one skincare product that you should never leave out, no matter the season! So, please include an  SPF of at least 15 in your skincare routine if you are looking for the best skincare routine for cold seasons.

Skincare routine for the sleeveless tops weather

Did you know your skin camouflages with changing seasons just like a chameleon? Obviously it won't change colour, but its texture does change. Dry and rough skin will start getting oily and greasy under the bright sun. Many of us have experienced this when winter moved to summer. So with changing times, we need to change skincare routines.

Keeping your skin clean is the greatest task in hot humid days. With all that sweat, dirt and sebum, your pores can easily get clogged. And you know the rest of the story — the acne. So cleanse twice a day, using a gentle cleanser — and if necessary, switch it to a double cleansing method.

Remember that it's okay to get oily skin during hot and humid times. So be kind to your skin and don't cleanse more than twice in a day. (If needed, use oil-absorbing sheets in between)

PS: Double cleansing method is not suited for those with dry or sensitive skin, and rosacea or eczema.

There's no best skincare routine without moisturising. But in humid and hot weather, you don't need that heavy cream-based moisturiser (unless you have very dry skin). A light water-based moisturiser or lotion will do. Your skin produces its own natural oils during hot times. So you don't have to add up more than what's needed.

If moisturising is the key to cold season skin routine, SPF takes that role in hot humid time skincare routine. Wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 to protect your skin from the bright, harsh sun. And did you know, this simple step can even reduce your risk of developing carcinoma and melanoma!

Many of us love wearing makeup on a daily basis. But what about during those hot and humid days? Wearing makeup during a hot sunny day can quite be messy (yes, that whole lot of sweat and heat). With all that sweat and makeup, there's a high chance of clogged pores. Wearing less makeup during such sunny days may help you keep your skin clear. With less makeup, you will let your skin breathe too. So a skincare routine that uses less skincare products is best suited for hot and humid times.

Finding the right skincare routine for different seasons takes time and patience. You may have to try different skincare products to see what works for you.
