All About Skin Aging

Aging for the skin means the changes that occur on the surface of the skin, making it look old. The skin becomes thinner, saggier, gets wrinkles and fine lines, and no longer looks plump and fresh like it once did. Scratches, bumps, and cuts take longer time to heal on such skin.

The major signs of aging include:

  • wrinkles
  • fine lines
  • dark circles and under eye bags
  • droopy eyelids
  • dehydrated skin
  • age spots

Aging can prove harsh on the skin. But what causes it?

Why Does Skin Aging Happen?

Age, of course

Aging is an inevitable, natural process that occurs to everyone. For some people it happens quicker than for others. This is the main reason for skin aging. This also means cell degeneration. As we get older, our cells regenerate more slowly causing our skin to become more dry and inelastic. As a result, there is a rise in age spots and other symptoms.

Makeup

It is no myth that makeup tends to make the skin inelastic, if not removed properly. Makeup can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Make it a habit to remove makeup completely before going to bed. Aand also, use non-comedogenic makeup products.

Poor diet

Poor diet and lack of hydration can be a hidden reason for your premature wrinkles and fine lines. It is important to eat right to feel right. Eating unhealthy foods can have serious impacts on your skin. It makes your skin more prone to acne, wrinkles and blackheads. Include a lot of veggies for your snacks as they are packed with antioxidant properties to protect your skin from damage by free radicals.

Stress

To have sStress ishas become a common occurrencething today. Stress not only affects your body and mental peace, but also your skin. It can have a negative impact on the skin and lead to inflammation and breakouts. This is due to the cortisol released by your body when stressed.

Now that we have looked at the causes of aging, let us see some anti-aging skincare tips to save our youthful skin.

Secret tips to look younger

Shield your skin against the sun

One of the easiest ways to protect your skin from aging is to cover your skin when under the sun. Trust me, this solves most of the skin related problems.

As much as sun is important for getting our daily dose of Vitamin D, its rays can be damaging to our skin. So make sure to wear your sunscreen whenever you step out (spf 30 or more) to avoid any development of blemishes, and age spots.

Beauty sleep

No matter what, sleep is an essential to keep our skin healthy. When you cross 30, it is important to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep at night to avoid wrinkles and dark circles. Sleeping also allows cells to regenerate and repair the skin.

PS: try avoiding using your phone for at least 30 minutes before going to bed.

Apply serum

Serum is truly a skin’s savior. Using a serum with retinol boosts collagen production. Collagen when produced, curbs wrinkles and fine lines — and the new cells that are regenerated, give it a fresh, glowing look.

Healthy diet

What you eat is directly linked to what shows on your skin. If you consume oily food, it will cause fine lines, breakouts and inflammation. During your thirties, it is important to keep a check on what you eat. Include lots of fruits and veggies, while avoiding processed food and sugar in your diet.

Use a humidifier

This is an underrated hack for keeping our skin fresh. When you turn 30, your skin starts losing moisture and dries out. Lack of moisture can make the skin inelastic and cause cracks and breakouts. Have a humidifier when you sleep to replenish the moisture content, especially during winters.

Drink water

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. On an average, we need to consume at least 3-4 liters of water everyday to curb any signs of dehydration. Since as you age, the skin loses water content, it is necessary to quench the skin’s thirst from time to time. This keeps the skin glowing, reduces blemishes and clears out marks.

PS: if you get bored of plain water, try adding a slice of lemon to it.

Moisturize mantra

Keeping your skin moisturized is the best way to make your skin look fresh and plump. Select a moisturizer that is lightweight and gets absorbeds quickly by on the skin quickly. Moisturize twice a day and don’t forget to apply it on your neck area as well. You can even use it as a night cream. Night creams usually contain vitamins and antioxidants that nourish your skin and keep wrinkles and other aging symptoms at bay.

Vitamin C products

Using Vitamin C either as creams or in the form of foods such as citrus fruits, broccoli and bell peppers can reduce sun damage, boost collagen production and reduce inflammation.

Along with following these tips, make sure to have a healthy diet and ample exercise (minimum 30 minutes a day) to increase the blood circulation in the face and keep the skin elastic. Most importantly, have faith and be patient in the process of anti-aging, as it does not happen in a day!

Try using organic brands for skincare that are free from harsh chemicals such as sulfates and parabens. One such brand is UnbottleCo whose motto is building sustainable skin and hair rituals for the long run all in an eco-friendly manner.
